The township of Safehaven was well named by its early settlers. It has developed over more than 100 years into a moderately sized coastal community in the south-east corner of Australia. It is a friendly town, catering for all ages: a good place to bring up children – or to provide a healthy, active life for those in retirement, like Justin Brodrick.
With the wider world seemingly in constant turmoil, Justin counts himself fortunate and privileged to live in such a peaceful town, which has never had a police station because it has never seen the need for one. And then…
A stranger with a suspicious background and an ugly personality moves into Justin’s street. He brings with him a gang of equally dubious cronies and between them they make a particular target of Justin because he leads the fight to cleanse the community of their menacing presence.
This conflict expands in escalating degrees of violence and climaxes in a murder trial.
