We hear so many negative reports about childhood years being spent in institutions and orphanages that take on the responsibility of caring for needy children, but not fulfilling this role of caring for them.
However, there are many thousands of children who have received love, care and guidance from very dedicated men and women in these Homes.
I was one who received such love and care from the age of 4 to 18 years old in Dr Barnardo Homes.
My real-life story shows the happy, character-building and positive-side of being brought up with other sisters, under the care of cottage Mothers and Aunties.
We had good days and bad, this is life; but I know I am the person I am today through the love, training and discipline I received and I am forever grateful that I was brought up in Dr Barnardo Homes with ‘Sisters by the Dozen’.
